3D Scene Slicer

Real browser capture of the 3D Slicer workflow

Overview

This tutorial shows the 3D Slicer workflow in the live confBuild editor. The screenshots were captured on March 6, 2026 and document how to inspect internal geometry with a movable clipping plane.

Project

Editable Carport project used as the live section target

Workflow

Open View, enable 3D Slicer, choose axis and move slice position

Goal

Inspect hidden interior structure without changing the actual model

Step 1: Enable 3D Slicer from the View menu

The slicer is part of the View tools. That makes it easy to switch from normal scene navigation into cross-section inspection without leaving the editor.

3D Slicer appears alongside other scene-inspection actions, which keeps model review and analysis in the same menu.

Step 2: Choose the slice direction and clipping helpers

After enabling the tool, the slicer panel opens as a floating control block. Use the axis buttons to define the cut direction and choose whether clipped areas or the clipping plane itself should stay visible.

The slicer controls remain visible over the viewport, so you can adjust the clipping direction while the scene stays in view.

Step 3: Move the slice position through the model

The position slider is the main inspection control. Move it through the project to reveal cross-sections progressively and understand hidden relationships inside the assembly.

The clipping plane stays non-destructive. You are only changing the current view of the scene, not the underlying project geometry.
